The manufacturing process of titanium rings is mainly divided into hot forming, cold forming, and powder metallurgy processes according to differences in application fields and performance requirements
1、 Hot forming process
1. Forging/Rolling Ring
Suitable for large-sized titanium rings, the heating temperature should be controlled below the β phase transition point to avoid grain coarsening.
Adopting a radial axial ring rolling machine for multi pass rolling, with a deformation of ≤ 70%, and air cooling or temperature controlled slow cooling to reduce residual stress.
Closed forging can improve accuracy, while isothermal forging is used for high demand parts such as aerospace.
2. Powder metallurgy
Titanium alloy powder is prepared by plasma rotating electrode or gas atomization method, cold isostatic pressing and vacuum sintering, with a density of ≥ 99.5%.
2、 Cold forming process
1. Cold rolling/spinning
Thin walled precision titanium rings are gradually formed using a CNC spinning machine, with a wall thickness tolerance of ± 0.05mm. When the cold rolling deformation reaches 30%, intermediate annealing is required to eliminate work hardening.
The combination of spinning, forging, extrusion and other advantages results in a 20% -50% high material utilization rate and excellent surface smoothness.
2. Machining: Use hard alloy or PCD cutting tools for low-speed machining, and the coolant should be a chlorine free oil-based medium; The wire cutting accuracy reaches ± 0.01mm.
3、 Heat treatment and surface treatment
1. Heat treatment
Solid solution treatment and aging treatment can enhance strength.
After cold processing, annealing at 550-650 ℃ is required to eliminate residual stress.
2. Surface treatment: Electrolytic polishing and nitric acid passivation form a dense oxide film to enhance corrosion resistance.
4、 Special Process Applications
Expansion technology: Connecting titanium tubes and plates through mechanical expansion, explosive expansion, and other methods, used for equipment such as tubular heat exchangers.
Longitudinal cutting and slitting: Trimming or slitting the edges of titanium strip to meet different width requirements, the precision of rubber roller clamping and disc cutting is key.
